Empowering Your Legal Journey
Supporting Young People Navigating the Justice System
Confidential legal information and system navigation for young people (and their families) involved with or at risk of involvement in the youth justice system.
Guidance for Young People
and Families
Being involved with the youth justice system, or at risk of involvement, can be a confusing and frightening experience for young people and their families.
Compassion Legal Support Services offers specialized legal information and system navigation support tailored to the unique needs of young people.
We understand the importance of early intervention and trauma-informed care.
Our service aims to demystify the youth justice process, explain rights, and connect young people and their support networks with appropriate legal professionals, youth services, and community support.
As a proud social enterprise, every paid session you book directly funds our mission to provide free or low-cost justice navigation support to vulnerable young people and families in our community.
How We Help You
- Understanding the Youth Justice Process: Clear explanations of what happens if a young person receives a notice, is charged, or goes to court. This includes understanding diversionary programs and court procedures.
- Rights and Responsibilities: Information on the rights of young people within the justice system, including the right to legal representation, support persons, and interpretation services.
- Support for Families: Guidance for parents, guardians, or carers on how to support a young person and understand their own role in the process, including family group conferencing.
- Risk Prevention & Early Intervention: Information and resources for young people and families seeking support before formal involvement occurs, focusing on underlying issues like family conflict, school problems, or mental health.
- Connecting to Specialist Services: Referrals to youth justice legal services, youth workers, family support services, mental health professionals, and other relevant community organizations.
